What is a Defined Contribution Plan?
AffinityChoice is an employer-supported voluntary group insurance benefit plan. It is often described as a “defined contribution” plan because the decision of how much the employer will contribute to subsidize the employees’ premiums is made by the employer, not by the insurance company. The minimum is $25 per participating employee per month.
It is then up to each employee to choose the benefits for which they want to enroll. The employer’s contribution is applied to reduce the employee’s cost.
Defining their own contribution allows employers to control costs by establishing a fixed, budgetable monthly expense.

Employer Requirements
10 or more-full time employees
Full-time employees are considered those who are working at least 30 hours per week. Members of sponsoring associations or franchise organizations only need 5 or more employees to be eligible!
Engaged in an eligible industry
Not just any business can apply, but if you have questions, please see our list of ineligible industries or simply contact us if you have any doubts.
6 months in business
Businesses with 6 months or more can apply.
Domiciled in an approved state
AffinityChoice is currently available in Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Maryland, Minnesota, New York, Pennsylvania and Virginia. More states coming soon.
No more than 50% of employees are related
We love family business, but no more than half of the workforce can be related for the employer to meet our requirements.

ICHRA is an acronym for Individual Coverage Health Reimbursement Arrangement.
ICHRAs are a new solution for employers looking to help employees and their families get health insurance without breaking the bank.
It’s simple. Each eligible participating employee receives a monthly tax-free allowance from the employer. The allowance is a fixed, bugetable amount determined by the employer. It never increases unless the employer decides to change it. Employer contributions are treated as a business expense.
Traditional employer group health insurance policies typically offer only one or two plan options from a single insurance company – pretty much one-size-fits-all. And, the employer’s cost usually increases every year.
Instead, with an ICHRA, employees can choose any Affordable Care Act (ACA)-compliant individual or family policy from any insurer. Employees use their allowance to help pay the premium for the policy that best suits their needs and budget.
